When a sign of abnormality occurs within the oral cavity, a tooth ache can occur. There are several reasons for which a tooth ache can occur. The main reasons for tooth aches however are dental cavities, gum diseases and diseases associated with the joint of the jaw. At times a tooth ache also results from a muscular spasm formed around the jaw.
Here are the main causes of Toothaches
- Dental decay.
- A crack in the tooth which is invisible resulting in the ache.
- A fracture in the tooth.
- Exposed parts of the root of the tooth. This can occur if the gums recede or get damaged due to vigorous brushing.
Toothaches are often more frequent during the night. At night the pain becomes severe because while lying down the supply of blood increases to the head and this accordingly increases the pain sensitivity. This will of course make it very difficult to get to sleep. On the other hand while standing up the pain can be much less severe.
During the emergence of your wisdom teeth toothaches are also very common. The pain can continue for 7-10 days. If you experience pain after 10 days it is a good idea to visit your local dentist right away. By avoiding making an appointment with your dentist you can risk much more pain and future problems with your teeth.
If you’ve recently had a tooth pulled you can also experience toothaches. The main reason for the pain is the exposure of the tooth socket to the air. Patients who suffer from this pain should consult their dentist immediately. If the tooth ache is associated with a fever, ear ache or mouth ache, then it should be considered very serious and you need to make an emergency appointment.
Pregnant women can also experience toothaches, bleeding gums or gum inflammation. You can reduce the pain by consuming Vitamin C and or Calcium. This helps to strengthen the teeth and the gums. Patients with hypersensitive teeth can experience severe toothache frequently. This is treated by using desensitizing toothpastes.
If the plaque from the gum line is not removed properly bacteria will enter the tissues of the gum and this will cause infection to the gums. This is known as gingivitis. Therefore, it is very essential to prevent the formation of the plaque through proper maintenance of the health of the gums as well as the gum line. Even if plaque is formed, it should be removed every six months through the process of scaling. This is another reason why it is important to have your teeth cleaned every six months.
Keep in mind that a toothache can be prevented by keeping your teeth healthy and free of germs. Cavities should be avoided at all cost by reducing the intake of sugary foods and drinks. Brushing should be done twice a day regularly and after every meal. Try to use toothpaste that contains fluoride.
Dental floss should be used in order to clean those areas of the teeth where your brush cannot reach and clean properly. Last but not the least, if a dentist can be visited regularly then the chances of you worrying about a toothache would be greatly reduced.
